The latest version of Apple’s iPhone and iPad OS – iOS 11.3 is just around the corner for release.

Along with WatchOS 4.2.2 update, the tech giant is not resting its train of updates and a new powerful iOS is ready to be rolled out in spring.

A beta version is already public and you can download and test it yourself.

While it was not expected from a “.3” update, this one is actually feature-packed enough to make you stick to your iPhone a bit longer.

  1. New AR Technology Revealed

ARKit introduced with iOS 11 turned iOS into world's biggest AR platform by putting the AR technology in the hands of millions of users.

With iOS 11.3, Apple rolled out ARKit 1.5 to developers to provide even more immersive AR experiences that better integrate with the world.

 Features of the new ARKit 1.5:

  • Can turn signs, canvas, and stamps into interactive AR experiences.
  • Can now place virtual objects on vertical planes in addition to horizontal surfaces like tables and bed. 
  • Can more accurately recognize irregularly shaped objects. 
  • Can now find and recognize the position of 2D images. 
  • 1.5 times better resolution and now supports auto-focus also. 

  2. New Animoji - Something Cool and Cute

New Animoji in iOS 11.3 update includes a total of 4 new characters.

A dragon, bear, skull, and lion.

It makes for a grand total of 16 different characters.

No wonder Animoji have been a hit with iPhone X users. It works with the A11 Bionic chip and TrueDepth camera in iPhone X.

  3. Battery Performance - Better Controls

iOS 11.3 has been confirmed to introduce new features to show battery health and recommendations if a battery needs to be serviced.

These can be found in the Battery section of the Settings. It is available for iPhone 6 and later.

Note: These features will be coming in a later iOS 11.3 beta release.

  4. An improved Health App

The new Health Records feature will combine data from all the health institutions and the existing Health app to make it easy for consumers to see their available medical data from multiple sources.

Health Records data is confirmed to be encrypted and protected with a passcode.

Additional iOS 11.3 Features:

  • Apple Music will be introducing add-free music videos.
  • HomeKit software will have improved Privacy and Protection procedures.
  • Support for Advanced Mobile Location (AML) to automatically send a user’s current location when making a call to emergency services in countries where AML is supported.

Downloads and Availability 

iOS 11.3 is set to release this spring for iPhone 5s and later iOS supporting devices.

The developer version of iOS 11.3 is available to iOS Developer Program subscribers at developer.apple.com

Apple Watch Update - WatchOS 4.2.2 Review

After  iOS 11.3 developer version , Apple released WatchOS 4.2.2 update (build no.: 15S542) for every iOS Watch.  The latest update is available on Apple’s Update Centre and is being distributed to users now.
